FanDuel Partners With Memphis Grizzlies Following Tennessee Sportsbook Launch

One day after launching the sportsbook in Tennessee, FanDuel announced its partnership with the Memphis Grizzlies, its first with an NBA team.

A day after launching a brand new Tennessee online sportsbook, the FanDuel Group announced on Monday a new strategic sports betting and daily fantasy sports partnership with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The multi-year deal is a first for the Grizzlies. It is also FanDuel’s first sports betting partnership with an NBA franchise.

FanDuel, Grizzlies focusing on Tennessee fan experience

With the agreement, FanDuel becomes both the Grizzlies’ official sports betting partner and exclusive daily fantasy partner.

Expect to see Grizzlies logos when navigating the Tennessee FanDuel Sportsbook going forward. FanDuel signage will also appear around the FedEx Forum in Memphis where the Grizzlies play their home games.

FanDuel will additionally highlight the partnership in radio, television, and digital advertisements promoting the Tennessee sportsbook, including sponsoring local broadcasts of Grizzlies games.

Mike Raffenspberger, chief marketing officer of the FanDuel Group, cited the new TN sportsbook launch while describing his enthusiasm regarding the deal.

“As we expand our market-leading sportsbook into Tennessee, partnering with the Grizzlies was a no-brainer given the team’s popularity and long-standing success,” said Raffenspberger.

He noted as well how both FanDuel and the Memphis franchise are “absurdly fan-focused,” making the partnership even more fitting.

Grizzlies President Jason Wexler spoke in similar terms, describing himself as “thrilled” about the agreement and future prospects for the new partners.

Tennessee tie-ins highlight early FanDuel marketing strategy

The partnership will also involve promotions with Grizzlies tie-ins for FanDuel Tennessee sportsbook users. Early examples include a sign-up bonus for new registrants and an autographed Memphis Grizzlies jersey giveaway.

In June, FanDuel entered a similar partnership with the Denver Broncos, six weeks after having launched a sportsbook in Colorado. That marked the first instance of an NFL team having an official sports betting partner.

Speaking of the NFL, FanDuel launched its Tennessee sportsbook on Sunday in time for the Week 8 slate of games.

Reflecting FanDuel’s intention to appeal to Tennesseans, Sunday morning saw former Tennessee Titans star running back Eddie George introducing his role as a spokesperson for the site.

The sportsbook tweeted out a video of the former football star running through his house while dodging objects in order to get to his phone and place a bet on time.

After adding Tennessee, FanDuel now operates online sportsbooks in eight states:

  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • New Jersey
  • Tennessee
  • Pennsylvania
  • West Virginia

FanDuel was one of four Tennessee online sportsbooks to start accepting real money wagers on Sunday. The others were DraftKings, BetMGM, and Action 24/7.
